According to the Royal Academy of Engineering, building engineering physics is about balancing energy demands, exploiting natural energy resources and minimising reliance on artificial energy.

Building physics is therefore a vast subject area which includes elements of other engineering disciplines such as, architectural design and software, structural engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering and renewable technologies.
